How every price on this site was obtained

If a number here cannot be traced to a source and a date, it is a bug. This page describes the process precisely enough that someone else could repeat it.

Updated

What counts as a source

In descending order of quality:

  1. Clinic price pages — the clinic's own published prices, read and archived on a stated date.
  2. Written quotes — figures obtained in writing as a prospective patient, with the circumstances recorded.
  3. Published package listings — where the listing states what the package contains.
  4. National bodies — used for home-country baselines, never for corridor prices.
  5. Patient-reported figures — displayed, labelled as such, and never included in any median.

What is stored with every record

  • Clinic name, city and country
  • Procedure, variant and the unit the price is measured in
  • The price, and both ends of the band where a range is published
  • The currency the source quoted in — never a pre-converted figure
  • Exactly what the source said the price includes and excludes
  • The source type, its URL, an archived snapshot, and the date it was read
  • The date the record was last re-verified

What disqualifies a record

These rules are enforced by the build, not by good intentions. The site cannot be published if any of them is broken:

  • No source URL, or no archived snapshot, on anything other than a written quote
  • A written quote with no note describing how it was obtained
  • A record last verified more than 365 days ago
  • A price attributed to a procedure the site does not define
  • Placeholder or example data of any kind

Records older than 90 days are still published but carry a visible staleness warning until they are re-verified.

How the figures on a page are calculated

  • Records are only pooled when they share a procedure, a variant and a unit.
  • The observed range runs from the lowest published figure to the highest, using both ends of any band.
  • The median uses the midpoint of each record, and is published only where at least 3 eligible records exist. Below that we say the sample is too small rather than printing a number.
  • Patient-reported figures are excluded from the median and the count of excluded records is shown.
  • City pages are generated only where at least 4 records exist for that city. Thin pages are not published to fill a URL.

Currency conversion

Prices are stored in the currency the source quoted. Conversion happens at display time from a single rate table with one date — currently , sourced from ECB euro foreign exchange reference rates, 2026-09-04. That date is printed next to every converted figure. We do not re-quote a converted price as if the clinic had published it.

Refresh cadence

  • Every record is reviewed monthly.
  • Sources are re-opened and re-verified quarterly.
  • The rate table is refreshed with the price review.
  • Records that can no longer be verified are removed, not left to decay quietly.

What we do not do

  • We do not rank clinics, score them, or publish best-of lists.
  • We do not sell leads, take clinic payments, or accept paid placement — see independence.
  • We do not publish a price we cannot show you the source of.
  • We do not average across units, variants or currencies to make a tidier number.

Corrections

If a price here is wrong, tell us and we will check the source and correct or remove the record. Clinics may ask for their published prices to be re-read; they cannot ask to be removed from a price record that is accurately sourced, and no payment changes what we publish. Write to the editor.
