Vetting is not the same as trusting a review. Reviews are the most gameable signal in this market and the most heavily marketed one. What follows are checks whose results you can see for yourself.
Verifiable
Registration of the facility. Health facilities in Turkey are licensed by the Ministry of Health, and clinics treating international patients operate under health tourism authorisation. Ask for the authorisation and the licence number, then check it rather than accepting a badge image on a website.
The named clinician. Not “our team of experts” — the name of the dentist or surgeon who will do your treatment. A named professional is checkable against the national dental association register. An unnamed one cannot be checked at all, which is the point of leaving them unnamed.
A written treatment plan. Based on your X-ray or CT, listing the work, the materials, the number of visits and the total. If a clinic quotes a price before seeing an image of your mouth, the quote is marketing, not a plan.
Written terms. What the deposit covers, what happens if you cancel, what the warranty covers, what voids it, and which country’s law governs the agreement. Ask for it as a document.
A physical address and a company name. Then look for the same entity in the country’s company register.
Weak signals, treated as strong ones
Accreditation logos. Some accreditations are meaningful and independently audited. Many are paid memberships with a logo attached. The test is whether the accrediting body publishes a searchable register you can find the clinic in without going through the clinic.
Before-and-after galleries. Unverifiable, frequently stock, sometimes not even the clinic’s own work.
Review volume. Consider where the reviews sit, whether the platform verifies treatment, and whether the negative ones have been answered or removed.
A UK phone number. Costs about the price of a coffee per month and means nothing about where treatment happens or who is liable.
The three questions that reveal the most
- Who is liable if something goes wrong, and under which country’s law? A clear answer is rare and worth a great deal.
- What happens if a complication appears after I fly home? Specifically: who treats it, where, and who pays.
- Will you put the plan and the total in writing before I pay a deposit?
