If something goes wrong after you fly home

Most treatment abroad goes as planned. The cases that go badly go badly in a specific way: the problem appears at home, and the warranty is somewhere else.

This is the risk that a price comparison cannot price, and the one worth thinking about hardest before booking.

The structural problem

A guarantee from a clinic abroad is usually a guarantee to redo the work at that clinic. Even where it is honoured in full and without argument, using it means flights, time off and another stay. For a small remedial job, the travel can cost more than the repair.

Meanwhile a dentist at home takes on a complication in work they did not do, without the records unless you have them, and — depending on the case — may prefer to redo rather than adjust.

What reduces the exposure

Collect your records before you leave. Treatment plan, materials used, implant system and reference numbers, any implant passport, pre- and post-treatment images. Your dentist at home cannot maintain what they cannot identify.

Have a home dentist who knows the plan. Ideally before you travel, so the work is being maintained by someone who saw the starting point.

Read the warranty conditions. Annual check-ups at the treating clinic, specific hygiene requirements, exclusions for grinding or smoking. Conditions you cannot meet make the warranty decorative.

Leave a buffer at the end of the trip. A day to notice a bite that is not right, while the clinic is still down the road.

Keep the paper trail. Every message, plan and receipt, in writing.

If it happens

  1. Contact the treating clinic in writing, describing the problem and asking what they propose
  2. See a dentist at home for an assessment and get it documented
  3. Check the warranty terms against what you were told
  4. Where money is disputed and you paid by card, ask your issuer about the dispute process and its time limits
  5. Where a formal complaint is warranted, ask which authority regulates the facility — health tourism authorisation in Turkey sits with the Ministry of Health

The honest summary

The price gap between corridors is real and, for larger treatment plans, large. The remedial risk is also real and falls entirely on you. Neither cancels the other. The decision is only sound if you have priced both sides of it, which is why every corridor page on this site ends with a link to this one.
